Pixelstick Fun!

PixelstickI hosted a class the other night demonstrating the use of a PixelStick!

This is a nifty device that is used in light painting. The stick is a little over 6 feet long and has a strip of 200 LEDs that are controlled by a microprocessor that can generate over 16 million different colors at each location.

It can display all sorts of cool patterns and effects, plus you can also load images on an SD card (in Windows BMP format, 200 pixels in height) and the stick can “paint” the image as the user sweeps the Pixelstick across the air.

Here are some examples shot outside our studio at night.  All of these images were totally created in-camera (no Photoshop involved).  The possibilities are endless!

No, the fence is not on fire. The Pixelstick can “paint” artificial flames!  So very cool

Want to know more about the Pixelstick? Check out their website: http://www.thepixelstick.com

Happy Picture Taking!

Photoshop is great for making any kind of image enhancement!

  • Retouch skin
  • Soften wrinkles
  • Enhance eyes
  • Enrich colors and contrast
  • Minimize “fly away” hairs
  • Remove unwanted background distractions
  • Slim a few pounds (if you already blew your New Year’s Resolution)
  • Add an out of town family member into your family photo
  • Enhance the sky
  • Do “composite” editing where you can place the subject into a totally different background
  • Get creative and do ANYTHING you can envision!

For example, in the photo below, it was created in Photoshop as a “composite” from three different photos taken in completely different places and a daytime scene was transformed into a mystical cold wintery night scene.  Really, once you learn Photoshop, the only limitation left is your imagination!

PHOTOGRAPHERS: Make Plans Now to Join Us This Summer in Rocky Mountain National Park

If you love photography and you love the beauty of nature, then I urge you to seriously consider joining us on our adventures in Rocky Mountain National Park this Summer.   Our Rocky Mountain Photography Workshop will take you to beautiful mountain vistas, waterfalls, cascades, and rivers.  We’ll experience some sunrises from the side of a mountain as we watch the park awaken into a new day of adventure. We’ll photograph all sorts of wildlife including elk, moose, marmots, big horn sheep, and on occasion maybe even a bear.

It is hard to imagine the majesty of Rocky Mountain National Park.  It is a true national treasure.  You have to experience it for yourself.

You can register for our photographic adventure either as a 4 day or 9 day option.  Plus, we have two pre-trip meetings to prepare you for the trip.  This is your chance to experience this amazing place with fellow photographers. You’ll get your own great shots of mountains, waterfalls, wildflowers, and wildlife.

We stay in a wonderful lodge right on Fall River, just a couple of miles from the entrance to the park.  One evening, we host a cookout right on Fall River.  Unique to our workshops: You are welcome to bring a significant-other/family member (adult) along on the trip with you at no additional charge!

Student comments summarize the experience pretty well:

  • “The natural beauty of RMNP was enhanced by Kevin’s knowledge of the park and locations that were custom picked for great photographic shots. Kevin’s calm, patient and knowledgeable teaching style meant that everyone, at whatever level they were at, felt comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, learning from them and then getting immeasurably better pictures as a result. The improvement in my photography from Day 1 to Day 4 was unbelievable. I came thinking the auto settings on my camera really took better pictures than I did, and I left seeing and believing that the pictures I now understood how to take were vastly superior to anything the camera could capture in auto mode. It was a 5 star experience from beginning to end.
  • “This is a workshop you can’t afford to miss! I came to the workshop with a goal of never using Auto settings again… I achieved that and more. Kevin is such a great teacher and is able to work with photographers of all levels. He made everyone comfortable, I am from Virginia and did not know anyone in the group (as were several others) by the end of the work shop I had made a group of new friends! We were able to get so many landscape and wildlife pictures. The whole experience was amazing. I’m ready to sign up for the next workshop! Thank you Kevin” – Barb

TIME IS RUNNING OUT and SPACE IS LIMITED

If you are thinking about registering, please know our lodging options will go away pretty soon because Rocky Mountain National Park is a popular destination.  If you are “on the fence” or if you have any questions, please contact us NOW.  Let’s TALK before you miss out on such an amazing experience.

We truly want YOUR SMILING FACE in our next group picture

Photographers: Join us this Summer in the Colorado Rockies!

As we enter the new year, make your plans NOW to join us on our Summer Rocky Mountain Photography Workshop! This is truly the perfect adventure for any photographer!  We’ll be in one of the most beautiful national parks in the country photographing sunrises, waterfalls, mountain landscapes, wildlife, forests, rivers, wildflowers, and more.

Student Comment:

We stay in a lodge right on Fall River, just a couple of miles outside of the park. Our adventures explore various areas of the park by car, plus we go on hikes on some of the park’s most beautiful trails. Because people are starting to make their vacation plans NOW, it is important that you sign up for the workshop soon so we can ensure there will be room in the lodge where we’re staying.

Student Comment: “The natural beauty of RMNP was enhanced by Kevin’s knowledge of the park and locations that were custom picked for great photographic shots. It was a 5 star experience from beginning to end.

You have the option of doing a 4-day or a 9-day version of the workshop. Either option is great, offering many hours of very “hands-on” learning as we photograph in the park. The 9-day option more than doubles your opportunities for getting great wildlife shots and mountain scenics. We also have two pre-trip meetings in Austin, TX to prepare you for the trip, know what to anticipate, and learn tips for getting better photographs while we are there.  If you can’t attend the pre-trip meetings, no worries.  We also post video recordings of the meetings online so you don’t miss out on anything!

Our students consistently have loved the workshop, and many have signed up to return again and again! We hope you will be part of our 2017 Summer Rocky Mountain Photography Workshop.
