EXPLORE YOUR CREATIVITY IN PHOTOGRAPHY! Sometimes the best thing you can do is step back and rethink how you are doing “photography” … and discover new ways to express your creativity!

Join us for the Rekindle Photography Creativity Workshop.  Here’s what previous students have said about it:

  • “I have been on a number of workshops with Kevin, which were all amazing, but this was exceptionally different.”
  • “a chance to consider new ideas and approaches, a chance to try new things”
  • “I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for new sparks or wanting to push yourself in new ways creatively and technically.”
  • really helped me to look at my photography in a more emotional way rather that being so concerned about technical aspects”
  • “I loved the projects and homework we were given to apply the information after leaving the workshop”
  • “The idea was to rekindle your creativity, try new things and just enjoy the world around us. It was a fantastic experience.”
  • “Kevin’s creative ideas for sparking photographic enthusiasm and the opportunity to think about project ideas, and go out and photograph with that new philosophy, made holding a camera in my hand new and exciting again.”

This Has Nothing to do with Photography OR Does It?

Many of you who have taken one of my Photography 101 Workshops know that I believe it is important for us photographers to study different forms of art.  Seek inspiration in music, painting, sculpting, dance, poetry, … all art.

One aspect of art that inspires me the most is when I see someone doing things completely different, coloring outside the lines, thinking outside the box, or however you want to put it.

Watch the video and then think about YOUR art.  What might you do DIFFERENTLY? What might you CREATE using an approach completely different from everyone else?

I love the creativity behind this endeavor described in the video, even though it really has nothing to do with photography.

Be creative. – Be different. – Be you.

Happy Picture Taking!

Photoshop is great for making any kind of image enhancement!

  • Retouch skin
  • Soften wrinkles
  • Enhance eyes
  • Enrich colors and contrast
  • Minimize “fly away” hairs
  • Remove unwanted background distractions
  • Slim a few pounds (if you already blew your New Year’s Resolution)
  • Add an out of town family member into your family photo
  • Enhance the sky
  • Do “composite” editing where you can place the subject into a totally different background
  • Get creative and do ANYTHING you can envision!

For example, in the photo below, it was created in Photoshop as a “composite” from three different photos taken in completely different places and a daytime scene was transformed into a mystical cold wintery night scene.  Really, once you learn Photoshop, the only limitation left is your imagination!

The Thankful Project

Here it’s Friday.  We have just about made it through another busy week!  Thank God It’s Friday!  TGIF!

I am a real believer that we photographers will create better photographs if we intentionally make it a practice to take in ALL the beauty and wonder of the world around us.  The first step in doing that is to STOP TAKING IT ALL FOR GRANTED.

The stuff we take for granted is most likely what we will overlook in our photography. It might be the simplest of things… the daily routine of getting the kids out of bed, making breakfast in a hurry, driving to work, our family, our kids, our parents, our home, our job, our friends, our coworkers, the car we drive, the air we breath, the water we drink, the sunrise each morning, the list goes on and on.

The next time you think you have nothing to photograph, just start making a “gratitude list”.  Think of all the things and people you are grateful for. Then make it your project to photograph those things! You may discover this project will result in your most meaningful photographs, especially later on in life.

So, instead of TGIF, practice gratitude EVERY day.

Exploring the Aspect of “Faith” and Our Photography

I just announced this new photography workshop called “Photography: An Expression of Faith“. It’s actually quite different from my other classes.

We are looking at the topic of “photography” from a different angle.   Rather than focusing on camera techniques, settings, exposure, light, composition, and all the other things that really matter a lot to create great images, we will be exploring how the topic of “faith” shapes what you photograph, and participants will take on a project to use their photography as an expression of their faith.  You can take this workshop using any type of camera, whether it is a DSLR, mirrorless camera, point-and-shoot, or even a smart-phone.

Granted we all see matters of “faith” differently. This workshop embraces our diversity and insights and challenges participants to really reflect on this aspect of photography.

I encourage you to read more about this workshop.  I have introduced it with a super low introductory price of only $39 if you register by December 24th.  The class is filling up fast!!

Rekindle Workshop Just Announced!

Rekindle Workshop

We just announced our first Rekindle Workshop for 2017!  It is a unique and inspiring workshop for photographers.  This will be 5 weekday sessions beginning February 20th, 2017.

Sometimes we reach a point where we just need to pause and reconnect with…
… why we fell in love with photography!

  • You might have reached a point where you feel uninspired, ‘burned out’, or just feel like you have lost that spark of creativity.
  • Maybe you just don’t feel good about the images you are creating, like they’re ‘missing something’.
  • Perhaps you need some fresh ideas to help you grow as a photographer.
  • Or you are new to photography and even though you know the fundamental technical stuff, you want to explore more of the artistry of photography.

This workshop will help you rediscover your love of photography and how you see the world around you.  It will help you work your way past creativity roadblocks you may be experiencing.   Join us for this special workshop.  Register soon and take advantage of our $20 Early Registration Discount!
